Rashid Khan made a record in T20 Tri- Series

Rashid Khan made a record in T20 : 2025

Due to his strong performance and experience, the three wickets taken by Rashid Khan took him to number 1 in the list of wicket takers in men's T20I cricket.

Afghanistan won their first match by 38 runs on Monday, having faced a lot of trouble from Mohammad Wasim. Rashid Khan, as usual, gave the match a new twist in the middle of the innings when it looked like they would be able to chase the target of 189 runs. He took 3 wickets for 21 runs, making him the highest wicket-taker in men's T20 internationals.

After losing the early wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, half-centuries from Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal put their team back on track and achieved the target. With their pacers, they frustrated Afghanistan for the most part in the middle overs of the powerplay, with the UAE bowling better than the Pakistan team. However, they eventually paid the price for their lack of patience. Karim Janat performed well by conceding 22 runs in the last over.

Waseem is frequently relied upon by the UAE to deliver a realistic shot, and he delivered just that as he took off. Thanks in large part to their captain, they managed to stay ahead of the asking rate and avoided all of the initial problems Afghanistan faced. However, it always felt like a solo effort, and after he was sent off, nobody was able to match that scoring pace. Afghanistan had enough goals on the scoreboard and with the ball to make the victory appear more impressive than it actually was.

Early jitters

Afghanistan lost the toss and decided to bat first so the pressure was on them. Rohit and Junaid Siddiqui bowled three tight overs and conceded just 16 runs. Then, Rohit wobbled and got out after getting an edge off Gurbaz, which increased the pressure even more. The home team bowled the first five overs of the powerplay followed by a few overs from Atal and Ibrahim.

Afghanistan turn it around

However, the pair got a chance when UAE brought in pacer Saghir Khan in the last over of the powerplay. The overs went on but Saghir's length did not improve and he swept the first ball over midwicket. Afghanistan scored eighteen runs and laid the foundation of a partnership.

Ibrahim profited when Dhruv Parashar sent down an incorrect over, and Atal used the rest of the partnership to his advantage, finding a four or a six almost every over. With eight overs remaining, Afghanistan had the platform they needed to launch, but the UAE didn't end the partnership until the Afghanistan 100 was brought up.

Dash at the death

And they launched. The UAE had kept Afghanistan's coattails in place for the majority of the innings, ensuring that they never overtook them. However, that diminished in the last four overs as the hosts' wheels came off and Afghanistan's lower-middle order hammered 49 off the next three overs.

With a six over the on side, Azmatullah Omarzai, whose appearance was crucial to his team's acceleration, started the gear change, and Ibrahim followed suit later in the over. Saghir would also be targeted by Omarzai, but the game was lost by the UAE when Janat dismissed Rohid, who had only conceded 12 runs in his opening three and claimed two wickets. Even though Siddique would follow with an incredible final over, the damage had already been done after Rohid bled 22 after two sixes and two fours.

Rashid triggers implosion

Captain Wasim displayed another brilliant display of strength, perfect timing and presence of mind to put UAE on the last leg of victory. He kept the run-rate steady without taking too many risks. When he smashed a straight six off Rashid in his second over, there were clear signs that the aggression was not going to stop; by the end of the ninth over, they needed a little over nine runs with eight wickets in hand.

Four deliveries changed all of that. Asif Khan was left to attempt to replicate the valiant efforts that were in vain against Pakistan after Waseem miscued one off Sharafudin Ashraf and was out for a 37-ball 67.

However, Asif misjudged the turn and found his off-stump rattled on the first ball he faced off Rashid. With the asking rate rising and the UAE's two primary attacking threats no longer present, Rashid cut through the batting order, finishing his spell by dismissing Ethan D'Souza and Parashar. The asking rate had increased to almost 16 by this point, and Afghanistan's lead was only narrowed by Rahul Chopra's undefeated half-century, which he attained with a six off the game's last ball.
